The electric for the XS750 is almost there. At least all the parts that are necessary to run the engine.

After playing with the thought of using some fancy minimalistic push button solution at the handle bar and a micro controller to switch the loads, I came back to a more simple approach. Inspired by the the great book “Der XS650 Motor” written by Joachim Pahl, where he is describing a reduced electric wiring that’s is using only the armature on the left side of the handle bar, I adopted his version for the XS750 (the book is in German language and can be downloaded for free on Joachim Pahls site).

Of course there are a few extra wires for the 750. For the electric starter and for a kill switch. I placed the ignition key on the left side under the seat, to keep the wires short. That’s also the main reason why I want a kill switch in the front (don’t like the idea of switching of the engine when the bike is lying on the left hand side …).

The wiring took so far a very, very long time. And it was pretty much challenging to place everything in the small compartment under the seat including one of two small lifepo battery packs. I’ve build the battery packs with four A123 cells,  each with 2.5 AH. Eight in total means 5AH. That should be hopefully enough for the starter. Thanks to the Raask rear set foot pegs, a kickstarter isn’t really an option anymore.
The battery packs are a bit hard to spot on the picture because they’re black. Like almost everything else. One is sitting under the fuel tank and the other one at the far rear end of the electric compartment under the seat. I decided to use XT90 connectors for the batteries. They can handle 90 Ampere each. In total 180 Ampere should be more then enough.

I’m quite sure after a couple of weeks I’ll have some troubles in remembering details of the wiring. That’s why I’ve been drawing a diagram in Photoshop. Can be downloaded here in GIF format just in case anyone is interested in.
