The next step as the upholstery work. It was the first time for me to do something like this. Luckily there are a few quite helpful videos on youtube. An other plus is the fact that I’ve used a sewing machine before and I got a bit of experience with car and motorbike seats because I did a bit of CAD modeling things like that. So I tried to do it by myself.
While I was for work in Munich, I went to an open workshop. One of those awesome places packed with tools where you can rent in for a couple of euros per hour. There they had a professional upholstery sewing machine plus a guy with professional expertise in upholstery I can ask questions to.
I wasn’t man enough to use real leather. I had my doubts about that because of the sewing and the question what happens, if the leather gets wet. Therefor I used synthetic leather (or vegan leather, how it’s called by marketing today).
With a print out of the “unrolled” surfaces, cutting out the pieces was quickly done. And the sewing on a proper machine was not very spectacular. With some thin foam and some fabric I did the stripes on the top. I didn’t took any pictures during the work – there was not much to document anyway.
